This Committee was formed by the Board of Trustees in August 2013 and the following subcommittees were designated under the umbrella of the Government Affairs Committee:
Legislative Planning Subcommittee: This subcommittee has been existence for many years. The Chair of the subcommittee has prepared a detailed description of its activities which are attached. Inasmuch as the Legislature generally meets every other year, this subcommittee does not meet monthly; however, if in session and several months preceding the beginning of the session, the subcommittee meets at least every first Monday of the month and quite frequently schedules meetings every Monday during the session. Primary budgetary requirements involve Lunch on the Capitol during Legislative sessions.
Regulatory Affairs Subcommittee: This subcommittee was formed to keep AWBD informed of the vast information from the Texas Commission on Environment Quality. The subcommittee does not meet on a regular schedule; however, forwards information to AWBD whenever necessary.
Road and Storm Sewer Maintenance Subcommittee: This subcommittee was formed by AWBD in 2013 to keep AWBD informed of counties attempting to defer road and storm sewer maintenance costs to municipal utility districts. Several seminars have been conducted to keep the members informed and as of this date, there has been no further activity. This subcommittee does not meet on a regular basis and should the occasion arise, it would be prepared to proceed.
Metal Theft Prevention Subcommittee: This subcommittee was formed in 2013 to assist municipal utility districts experiencing theft of the districts’ facilities. Although no recent activities have been documented, this subcommittee will be prepared to provide assistance if needed. This subcommittee does not meet on a regular basis and should the occasion arise, it would be prepared to proceed.
The foregoing information generally defines the Government Affairs Committee. With exception of the Legislative Planning Subcommittee, not any of the above have a budgeted line item nor have expended funds.
